About Adam
Adam provides psychological therapy for adults experiencing depression, anxiety and trauma related disorders, with a particular interest in complex, persistent, and treatment-resistant presentations.
His approach is formulation-driven and draws on psychodynamic psychotherapy, including ISTDP principles, alongside CBT, DBT, trauma focused therapy and Schema Therapy. He is particularly interested in personality disorders, psychotic disorders, trauma-related difficulties, depression, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation.
Therapy focuses not only on symptom reduction, but also on understanding the underlying emotional, relational, and defensive patterns that may be contributing to ongoing difficulties. Adam takes an active and collaborative approach, tailoring treatment to the individual and working alongside psychiatric and multidisciplinary care where appropriate.
Therapeutic Approaches
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, goal-oriented approach that examines how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours influence one another. By identifying and reframing automatic, unhelpful thinking patterns, you develop actionable strategies to respond differently to everyday life challenges. It is an evidence-based treatment widely used for anxiety, depression, and stress that equips you with lifelong coping skills.
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed to help you strike a healthy balance between accepting yourself as you are and taking active steps toward meaningful change. It provides concrete training across four essential skill areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. This modality is especially effective for managing intense emotional reactivity, impulsivity, and turbulent relationship patterns.
-
Psychodynamic psychotherapy explores how unconscious processes, early life attachments, and emotional defenses shape present-day struggles. By integrating Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) principles, the therapist actively works with you in real time to uncover and dismantle defenses that block deep, core feelings. This direct, experiential focus helps resolve buried emotional conflicts quickly, paving the way for lasting self-awareness and genuine relational closeness.

Trauma-focused therapies offer a safe, paced framework to process distressing past experiences without becoming re-traumatised. Utilising evidence-based techniques such as somatic processing or trauma-focused CBT, therapy targets how traumatic memories and hyperarousal are stored in the nervous system. The primary goal is to alleviate symptoms like flashbacks and avoidance, restoring a felt sense of safety, bodily regulation, and personal agency.

Schema Therapy is an integrative approach developed to heal deeply ingrained, self-defeating emotional patterns (known as "schemas") originating from unmet childhood needs. By blending cognitive, behavioural, and experiential techniques like imagery rescripting and chair work, it targets both rigid coping styles and vulnerable emotional states. It is particularly valuable for individuals navigating chronic difficulties, identity struggles, or long-standing relationship roadblocks that haven't fully shifted with brief therapies.
